In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the battery in your BMW X1. So this is BMW X1 key Fob. It's a rectangular shaped key. This is for the Comfort Axis version. This is from model years 2009 to 2015.

Use this rectangular shaped key Fob. So to tell if you have the Comfort Access version of your Fob or not, turn it over. You'll see on this key Fob on the front it looks exactly the same. The back of it doesn't have this outline. Comfort Access key Fob does here for your X1.

So the Comfort Access just allows you to unlock the vehicle just by grabbing the handle versus having to actually depress the button. So if you have a Comfort Access version, I'll show you how to get to the replacement battery right now. If you have a Non-Comfort Access version, I'll link to a video on how to change that one later. So remote the valet key and that will give you access to a little slot right here in the middle that allows you to pop off this square back in here. And it's pretty simple.

If you grab a flathead screwdriver or even pair of nail Clippers, you can get in there and just kind of slowly pry this off. Then I'll pop off this back and give you access to the X1 battery that you need to replace. And the battery that you'll need is a CR 2032. And you can just remove that pop in a new one. Make sure that the positive side is facing you.

Positive side has the text on it here and then go ahead and replace the backing like so pop in the valet key and that's how you replace the battery in the Comfort Axis. BMW X1 key Fob Remote from 2009 to 2018 models.

Alright. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the Non-Comfort Access key Fob in the E84 BMW X1. This is the model years 2009 through 2015 for the X1. So if you look at your key Fob, the first thing you got to determine is if you have Comfort Access or Non-Comfort Access just allows you to unlock the car just by grabbing the handle.

So if you look on the back of your key Fob, the rectangular one here, if you see this square that has kind of looks like something a back you could pop off. This is a Comfort Access key. And I can all link to the video on how to change this battery. But in this one, we're going to change the Non-Comfort Access key. So if you look at the back here, there's no backing here.

And to get to the rechargeable battery that we need to get to, the first thing you want to do is pull out the valet key here. And you can see around the edges here. There's kind of a line that we'll need to score around. And I used a box cutter when I did this the first time. And what you can do is just kind of score around the edges here.

And this may take a good five minutes to kind of cut through this layer that separates the Fob into two different pieces. And once you get through that, you're able to take the Fob into two different pieces here and get access to the internal circuit board. And so the circuit board will pop out here. And then now you can see the VL 2020 battery that we need to replace. So if this battery dies for whatever reason, normally this recharges itself.

This can last a while. But if you do need to replace it, this is how you do it. So flipping it over here, you can see there's two points where the battery is attached to the circuit board here. These are called the legs on the battery. And so what we'll need to do is desolder these two points, put in a new battery, and then put the Fob back together.

Now, to desolder this, I just have a nice little soldering iron I got off the Amazon that I can link to. If you've never done this before, this is a pretty straightforward desoldering process. And so what I'm doing here is I'm just going to heat up the solder here, and then I've got a desoldering vacuum, and this will suck up the solder when we're doing this desoldering here.

And then we can remove the battery once we've got the solder removed.

Okay, let's see where we're at there.

Okay, so it's still a little bit attached there.

Okay, a little more off here.

Let's see how that goes again. Once you've removed the solder and are able to pull off, there we go. These two legs here on the battery you'll see that these are kind of offset at about a 90 degree angle. Some of these VL 2020 batteries just seeing on Amazon have a 180 degree offset so one leg would be here and one leg would be here. Make sure you get the one that's offset 90 degrees so that can match the entry points onto the circuit board here.

So if we had a new VL 2020 battery with our 90 degree offset legs we just put this back on through the points here on the board and then we'll want to solder this to the board so get some of our handy dandy solder here and I think I paid $18, $19 for this kid on Amazon so it's not a super expensive project that you can do yourself and then we're just going to touch some of that solder on there.

Get that done and then the other point over here okay, now that we've got that done I've got the new battery attached to the board here. The new VL 2020 we can go ahead and put this back into that spot here. You can see the battery's got a little outline there on this side so just slot that in there and then you may want to get some superglue to kind of superglue around the edges here just so that when you reattach this here you get a nice actually snug fit because when you do score the edges it's going to want to stay apart. That's how you do a replacement on the Non-Comfort Access key Fob for the BMW X1 model years 2009 to 2015.

Alright, in this video I'm going to show you how to replace the battery on a BMW X1. This is for the F48. So BMW X1 key Fob. This is for the F48. This is model years 2015 to 2019.

So if you have this kind of sleek looking key Fob to access the internal battery to press the side button here, that removes the valet key. So once you remove the valet key, you'll see there's a little bit of a kind of a very small hole gives you access. It's kind of a perfect spot for a small flathead screwdriver. And if you just put the flathead screwdriver in there, you can pop off this back really easily. You could even take the key itself, the valet key and insert it in there and use that to kind of pry open the back here.

This will give you access to the internal replaceable battery that we need to replace. So the battery that you'll need is a CR 2032 and pop this out. I'd say come from the top here is the easiest way because the bottom holders here kind of tight. Pop this out, get a new CR 2032 and just make sure the positive side with the lettering etched on the battery is towards you. And put in the base here first.

Pop that in, put in your back here and kind of replace the slanted side first. It makes it easier to put that in. Pop it in, put your valet key back in and boom, that's how you replace the replacement battery on the BMW X1. That's for the F48 series and versions for model year 2015 to 2019.
